UTP Internet: Blame Who?

UTP internet has been notoriously slow. It has been dragging for such a long time. In the past few months, wireless connection (Streamyx) is still available. Now, It is of no use anymore. Worse come to worst, cable connection is unreliable and unpredictable. Students, as always, keep pointing their fingers solely to ITMS. Is it fair? Let's see a few tweets regarding this issue.
Official Statement from MPP:

UTP students are expected to experience better coverage of network accessibility starting this new January 2011 semester. So far, what is happening is another way round. There are few modifications that are being taken pertaining network since the holiday. But then, until now no final solutions have been taken. Everything is getting worse. Are the students deserved for that?

On 25th January, MPPUTP represented by Mr.President Saudara Hamzah Nawawi associated by Exco 1 Welfare Saudara Zakirin had done such a quick action by having conversations with Mr. Arfaishah from ITMS for further justification.

Official internet provider, JARING is now encountering a problem with one of two control systems thus causes the internet to slow down. At this moment, they are fixing the problem and it may take couple of days to solve.

Currently, UTP students are sharing the bandwidth of internet connection approximately 100 Mbs on average. With this rate, student actually shouldn’t have any problem. The trouble might come from the students themselves. Actually the ITMS had already implemented a proxy to counter the users with high usage. Students are required to use this proxy to access the internet by following the steps mentioned. Should you have any problem with the proxy setting, please inform ITMS to fix the problems.

There has been rumors that some irresponsible and selfish kids are doing those 'tunneling' work that might cause the slow internet connection. Maybe we should be find all this guys and give them a hit on their head so that they know what they're doing. Should we shift our fingers to them now?

"100 Mbs"? utpian dont get this fast..

"Actually the ITMS had already implemented a proxy to counter the users with high usage.".. so what is the proxy? is it only nbproxy that need to be used by all utp students?

so when the service provider will promise that they will solve all the problem?

come on, walk the talk. please don't point fingers. focus on the problem solving process itself. this is embarrassing. and this blog itself is soooo unprofessional.

hahaha... so let say highly usage come from few students with average 10Mbps. So we have about 5 people, its still 50 Mbps, 50 Mbps cannot sustain the others? hahahaha please dont do silly assumption. its all about because UTP network is not well managed.

Internet failure trending shows to us, there is no consistency in internet service even after upgrading the service.

Even worse, before upgrading process, internet speed much better? so who will explain this?

agreed on the point tht some irresponsible students use P2P, online streaming & network tunneling on utp network which slows down the intrnet, but now many website hd been blocked including prism,& youtube, which i assumed students now dont have much website to be streamed..yet I dont understand how still the internet performed worse than dial up connection

btw, prism got blocked off during this add drop period..who can explain this? itms huh? :S

Anonymous said...

please explain how come internet before is much better....
and one more thing, what is the actual reason of removing the wireless service???
just wondering.....

bukan setakat internet, bekalan lektrik pun asyik putus-putus jek... huhu

aahahaha... always keep on blaming students. Previously they said students use internet for online gaming. Don't you think with the superb speed of internet UTP possible for online gaming without lagging? ask urself. :) They also said DC++ also one of the big problem. Now we dont have official Dc++, internet becomes better?

For me, itms cant blame the student as we do pay for the internet service. if there are student who do something inappropriately, they should block the port as they had done before. its better to use back the old system rather that using the proxy like nowadays. do hear the voice of innocent students.

No Youtube, no Peter Chao. No PRISM, no add drop. proxy sucks. internet speed sucks.

oh, and your English sucks too.

Anonymous said...

Don use proxy la... sure slow... hire Bill Gates to do the proxy instead ITMS.. sure good.. because the ITMS is working as slow as the internet connection in UTP... lol

nak harapkan ITMS yang 2-3 kerat je ada, sampai berjanggut berjambang pun belum tentu setel lagi.

btw, wifi kat v6 memang superb! laju dan meyakinkan!

dude, your grammar sucks! u guys listed some of the most talented UTP bloggers, why don't u guys open up their blog and learn how to write in basic English? my suggestion would be Ashraf (Celebrating Life), Ash (Everyday Life of A Fishlover), Raihana (cik Daryll), or Steward (Steward's Smile). Bare in mind that u guys are not just someone who writes something for fun, but u guys are the one who writes important news and information for UTP students. Please have your grammar checked before posting anything in English dude! Such a disgrace! (U can also hire the bloggers that I've listed for grammar checking, if you guys don't have the time to consult the lecturers). Imagine what will happen if the rector reads your posts? Aren't u ashamed?

"Are the students deserved for that?"

dude...... when u write in english... make sure that it is ENGLISH.... come on dude... your writing do reflect on utp students as well... so keep in mind that when somebody reads this... they will not say your english is not good, they'll say that "utp student's english are not good"... so when u write fer utp... get ur grammar checked... there is and english language club in utp... at least run this through them before u post it...

Student's own fault? come on la... I assumed u're not an IT student. Truly, the internet here is embarrassing. It's very unfair for all the international students here. How are they gonna communicate with their family? Management wana lend them their phone?

Besides, the job of ITMS is to deal with all these issues. If they are trying to push all the responsibility to the 'Jaring', then fine. How bout disperse the ITMS department?

Yes, they say internet here is for education purpose but how can it be useful when it takes 2-5 minutes to load the Google homepage? The funniest part is we can't even access elearning at certain time. Now is this Jaring's fault?

THIS IS VERY EMBARRASSING. FOR A UNIVERSITY OF MULTINATIONAL COMPANY.

Come'on la ITMS, stop eating ur karipap and ur sirap and do something.

And besides, if ur ENGLISH SUCKS BIG TYM, I dun mind if u use Bahasa Malaysia. My NANA's English is better than urs.
